Donation Close To Former Chairperson's Heart

Members of the Chamber were pleased to be able to present Stars Appeal - Salisbury District Hospital's Charity a cheque today, for £1000.

The Chamber has been supporting the Stars appeal since 2009, having previously raised thousands of pounds to go towards many areas of the appeal - memorably the neonatal accommodation unit, which provides a place to stay for parents whose newborn baby is in neonatal care.

This latest donation of £1000 was raised in memory of Jim Johnston at the annual Charity Gala Dinner in November 2023.

The money raised will go towards the Pembroke suite, where the presentation was held. It will go towards helping buy much needed equipment that is unavailable on the NHS.  The unit cares for patients who have blood diseases or cancer.

David Cates, Head of Fundraising for The Stars Appeal, hosted the team and thanked the Chamber for it’s continued support whilst explaining some of the many benefits the Chambers fundraising has helped deliver.

"Nearly every resident in the Trusts area will likely know someone who has been helped at some stage by the Pembroke unit."

The presentation was particularly relevant to former chair and member Vicky Parks, who was at the unit during the presentation to receive ongoing treatment.  Vicky said “it was great for the Chamber to be here today and it is evident that the Stars Appeal makes such a difference throughout the hospital.  Whilst the donations are important it is the close knit team at the unit that make a huge difference and I would personally like to thank them for the incredible work that they do on a daily basis.”

This latest donation follows others this year made to local food banks and Wiltshire Air Ambulance, another charity that the Chamber regularly supports. The Chamber also supports a number of smaller local charities each year, an announcement is due to be made soon which local charities will be chosen for this years’ planned events.
